ANSI/ASME B16.11 threaded cap fitting is screwed to the end of pipeline, it has same function as plugs. The difference is female / male thread weight & dimensions. It is similar to the blind plate in form, but the blind plate can be moved removed, while the pipe cap cannot be removed.

Forged threaded end caps are generally conform to material of ASTM A105 / A182 dimensions of ASME / ANSI B16.11. They are used to protect the pipe ends in different shapes. Compare with threaded elbow, threaded tee threaded coupling, it is used too much dut to its function.

For ASME B16.11 cap threaded plug, they have same funcation. The difference is the thread type that female male. The ANSI B16.11cap is used to connect the pipe end in external thread, while the plug is matched with pipe end in internal thread.
